Firefighters' Union Leadership Endorses Foster For Mayor
LB Firefighters Association Local 372
12/21/2005
LB Firefighters Association Local 372 has endorsed Bob Foster
for Mayor of LB.
In a release emailed by LB Firefighters Association acting
president Reies Montes, the union said Mr. Foster "will provide
the leadership and energy necessary to lead the City of Long
Beach in the coming years."
Mr. Montes told LBReport.com the endorsement on behalf of the
roughly 425-member LB firefighters' union results from an 11-0
vote of its Executive Committee. The group's release went on to
say:
Bob Foster's commitment to public safety and to the City's
financial well being demonstrates that his priorities reflect
both the will of the citizens of Long Beach and the firefighters
who serve the City. Firefighters are confident that Foster will
be an advocate of the City's first responders and that he will
ensure that public safety staffing, resources, and service will
remain among the City's highest priorities. In addition, his
experience as President of Southern California Edison, coupled
with his years of service in the public and non-profit sectors,
shows both a remarkable talent to lead and a capacity for
uniting diverse opinions.
Mr. Foster responded to the endorsement with the following
statement:
Fire fighters deserve our thanks for the tough job that they
do. But, just as importantly, they require our support. Long
Beach, home to nearly 500,000 people, one of the nation's
largest container ports, and substantial commercial enterprises,
faces unique challenges. We must be prepared for potential
terrorist threats and catastrophic disaster. Long Beach fire
fighters are our front line of defense. As Mayor, I will be
their partner in working to make Long Beach safer and more
secure. I am honored to have their support.
